The Diocese of Houma - Thibodaux was established as a diocese on June 5, 1977. It comprises the Civil Parishes of Lafourche and Terrebonne and parts of St. Mary, Jefferson, St. Martin and Assumption Civil Parishes. The total population within these 3,500 square miles of the Diocese is 202,000 with an estimated Catholic population of 126,000.
